Reverie is a mixed-media installation which explores the interconnections between ancient Middle East-ern pottery and architecture, aiming to evoke a sense of mystical complexity that has always been part of the culture and history of the region. Amid the constant turmoil and unrest that is associated with the Middle East in the eyes of the media, in Reverie I try to seek recourse to the past.

The sonic material is a heavily processed mixture of the national anthems of eighteen Middle Eastern countries* that are all super-imposed on top of each other. Using time-based audio effects, the chaotic cacophony of the resulting mixture is smoothed out and stretched into a tranquil drone, floating in space and time. For the sound design I collaborated with M.H. Zarei (sonic artist).
